On behalf of Chair Rick Baker and the members of The Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida, we respectfully propose our Second Annual Report.
In this report, the Century Commission focuses the state on an additional set of critical issues, which is how our process is designed to work: The Century Commission identifies and calls attention to important state issues, recommends actions to address them, and encourages the appropriate entities to move forward with implementation.
This report highlights our recommendations for 2008 and what we accomplished in 2007. Our recommendations for 2008 broadly cover four major areas:
- Ensuring an adequate and reliable water supply for current and future generations.
- Maping Florida’s most critical natural resources and pursuing new conservation methods.
- Designing communities and buildings that are sustainable.
- Making the creation of a sustainable Florida within one generation the central organizing theme for all state public policy and agencies.
The First Annual Report provided the foundation for how the Commission believes a “sustainable Florida” can be created and contains specific recommendations which focus on supporting critical research initiatives, collecting and using meaningful data, and building a culture of intergovernmental and regional coordination. Comment on the report.
